Every house of fashion has presented an exciting selection of jackets that will liven up the scene as the weather turns colder. Throw away those dreary winter jackets immediately. This does not mean that you will be shivering this fall. Tradition has had a strong influence on this collection and this means warm winter-wear. The look is the ever-popular leather. The perforated leather jacket, especially in soft leather with a distressed look offers a really chic look for casual wear when the days are not yet too chilly. Black remains a classy but brown is making a good showing this season, as is a steel grey. Completely different in style and appearance is the bomber jacket or the biker jacket. Designers have drawn strongly from the era of conventional warfare. They have retained the hardy, serviceable shape first used to protect pilots flying the very basic early airplanes, particularly during the war. Designers have gathered the leather tightly into a band around the waist, drawing attention to a really voguish pair of trousers. The waistband, and the wristband, is finished in a contrasting trimming, often ribbed, and generally in a strong shade of green or red. A bomber jacket must have plenty of audacious zips both to keep the jacket and many pockets closed, but also on shoulders and sleeves. Decidedly more elegant are the gorgeous double-breasted jackets that bring back memories of Clark Gable but the swaying oversized look of his time has been replaced by a waist-hugging shape that emphasizes the both the waist and the hips. The broad lapels and bold buttons are key features of the jacket that balance the tight waist. Worn in twill or cotton, these jackets look good for a formal occasion. For a more casual look, select a jacket in bright colors of the very voguish plaid. The trench coat continues the theme of masculinity in the look for this fall and winter. Based on the coats worn by men fighting in the trenches during the First World War, these trench coats have a pizzazz not found in thick heavy coats of those times. Manmade fabrics of polyester and nylon have transformed the coat into one that the trendsetter can wear with flair and the double-breasted front adorned with bright, bold buttons offers a stylish jacket for the well-dressed man. The short trench coat with its many belts and buckles offers a dashing look for the dapper man about town. Trench coats have not followed the craze for black. Elegant beige is definitely the only color for the trench coat this season. Look for jackets with contrasting fabrics and textures on collars and cuffs. Ribbed trimmings are chic with red and green being favored colors. Collars are often wore high and close around the neck. Multiple pockets and several large zippers are popular features as far as trimming is concerned. Jackets are very much in vogue this winter and trendsetters will be turning to a strong macho look in dark leather. Smart double-breasted jackets or trench coats will also set the scene alight.
